Because life has no borders!

Twenty8Twelve is a collaboration between Sienna and Savannah Miller backed by Carlos
Ortega who owns the contemporary Pepe Jeans. Since the launch of her career stateside
with Alfie, Sienna Miller, has been a style icon recognizable worldwide and most fashion
lovers agree that she is a force to be reckoned with. Holding her own against the
designer hopefuls that came before her such as Madonna, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate
Moss, and the Olsen Twins-Sienna is now another celebrity cashing in her chips at an
attempt to get her slice of the ready-to-wear cake; but unlike the afore mentioned, Sienna,
opted to take the venture a little further by releasing her own stand alone label rather
then a chain store collaboration. While many fans are thrilled to hear that Miller is finally
going to share that innate sense of style others are saying “ugh, enough already with
these celebrities, don’t they have plenty of money?”
“I'm not about to become a brand--I won't be releasing an album, perfume and knickers
next year," says Sienna. "Because of my job, people are willing to invest in the business,
but my sister's an incredible designer, and it's a great opportunity for me to work with
her.” The Miller Sisters are very aware of the pitfalls that Sienna’s celebrity may add to
the brand as well as they know how many benefits it can bring to their venture. Savannah
adds, “"I think that people are getting really annoyed lately about these celebrities that
want to call themselves designers. But I can tell you, Sienna has a real interest and with
my background, we have a great knowledge of the business.” “I’ve always loved fashion,”
adds Sienna, “and Savannah got a First in design at Saint Martins. We hadn’t thought to
pursue it together, but it just happened organically. And setting up a label with your sister
is a lot of fun — there haven’t been any fights yet.”
Savannah has a strong design background having worked with the likes of Alexander
McQueen, Betty Jackson, and Matthew Williamson which gives the label an edge on it’s
predecessors.
Twenty8Twelve includes eighty relatively affordable pieces with the most expensive coats
being about $650 or 345 pounds, and the shirts begin at $80 or 40 pounds. The
collection includes printed silk dresses, denim jeans, cotton T-shirts and tanks, tailored
pants, cropped tuxedo jackets, canvas trenches and leather bomber jackets that will be
the first of the S. Miller label. The contemporary line will kick off for fall exclusively at
Bergdorf Goodman in New York, Neiman Marcus in Los Angeles and Holt Renfrew in
Canada.
Savannah insists that the credit for the collection is as much hers as is Sienna’s. She
sums the feel of the collection, “In particular for this collection, we really homed in on dark
Dickensian London, French peasant style, and Seventies New York rock 'n' roll.”
“I am immensely proud of our first collection,” says Sienna of the inspirations for the line.
Other designers who have lent a collaborating hand to the Miller Sisters are Elsa Elphic
and David Cooper who besides designing prints for some of the blouses also decorated
the Georgian house in London for the press showing.
The Millers have not put all of their faith in the grace of the three department stores
instead opting to open a chain of their own boutiques starting with the first one in the
London Notting Hill area. The store is being positioned for a September launch and,
along with their clothing; Savannah said the sisters will showcase special pieces of art
from young artists in a gallery-like setting. The first commissioned artist is David Cooper,
with Chris Roantree to follow. The Millers plan to showcase work from a new artist each
season.
Both Sienna and Savannah are aware that they have much to prove if they mean to stand
above all the other celebrity designers. "Both Savannah and I have made a very big
commitment to Twenty8Twelve by S. miller as a brand, and the collections are seriously
thought out from start to finish. We really look at each piece, it’s tailoring and materials,
and it matters to us that Twenty8Twelve grows each season and that it is not seen as just
a fleeting whim on our behalf."
Will the collection add some spice to the world of celebrity inspired fashion? We think so,
but what matters is what the public thinks and that remains to be seen when the collection
hits stores on August 1st. Meanwhile we await the US debut at NYC’s Gramercy Park
Hotel on July 26th when both Sienna and Savannah will be making an appearance to
show off their work to U.S. critics.
