Burberry
The inspirations for Burberry’s fall line simply came the Burberry Prorsum logo—a
medieval knight on a charger-and Christian Bailey wasted no time letting his
imagination runaway with him in yet another effective line up that evolves but stays ever
the same in brand identity.  He extrapolated from the look of armor, tunics, and jousting
regalia, "It's the same Burberry girl. She's just rocking a bit more," ," he said, describing
a tougher, sexier Burberry Girl.

For those tuned to a high-fashion frequency, the collection also registered a hint of the
body-conscious dressing (in this case, layered over knits) and the belted, short, full-
skirted Alaïa-esque silhouette that is coming out of London. Burberry, after all, is based
in the English capital, and Christopher Bailey is that city's most accomplished example
of what can be done when young design is melded with commerce.
Dolce e Gabbana
Dolce e Gabbana did one thing different this season and that was to appeal to more then the teeny
bopper fashionistas.  With their flashback to the days of Studio 54 the line has the best of both worlds
combined with both the staple pieces like the series of chiffon leopard-spot dresses with full sleeves
and high, scarf-tied necklines, inter-cut with variations on bow-tied, white-shirted tuxedo suits. This is
established territory for their main line, and it lent a distinctly dressed-up focus to the short shorts and
minute gold Lurex numbers and incy baby dolls à la Biba though the junior brand flirtation was in no
means absent from the line up.

Alberta Ferretti
This fall less is more unless it comes to studs and Albertta Ferretti’s strong fall line was
proof that grey does not have to a minimalist’s platté.  Her puff sleeved coats and
reproportioned retro inspired coats lent a certain jenesequa.

Despite all of the pretty embellishments (cocktail dresses with gold sequins arrayed in Art
Deco geometries or feathers aligned in horizontal stripes), there wasn’t a lot of trickery to
her evening wear where ease and glamour danced rhythmically in each piece.
