Because life has no borders!
We Are What We Do!
Every time I am in the grocery checkout line I have a small bout of anxiety when I hear
that proverbial question “paper or plastic?”  While I am environmentally conscience I
cannot proclaim to be an environmentalist yet at the local market the choices are slim
pickings when it comes to which would be a better choice for our planet.  On the one
hand you have paper which is basically dead trees, and on the other hand there is
plastic which is, well, plastic; not good since it’s not biodegradable.  Anya Hindmarch
and We Are What We Do, the global social change movement, hope to make that
choice a little easier with their “I’m Not a Plastic Bag” tote.

The limited edition bags with navy blue lettering were launched in the US on June 20th
and already the bags are in high demand.  For just $15 the bags are available at all US
Anya Hindmarch stores, Ron Herman and Fred Segal Flair and from Holt Renfrew in
Canada for $18 (Canadian Dollars). Due to overwhelming demand purchases per
customer have been limited and already there is a black market springing up for these
bags.

While the UK version is no longer available, and from the looks of things the US bags
will not be around for too long, there are plans for more launches in other parts of
Europe, Japan, and Southeast Asia.   Brown Thomas in Ireland and Corso Como in
Milan will also be stocking the brown version of the bag in July. In Japan there will be a
cream bag with green lettering available on July 14th. These bags will also be available
through Anya Hindmarch stores in Japan, and Isetan and Dover Street Market Tokyo.
In South East Asia a cream bag with grey lettering will be launched in July through Anya
Hindmarch stores in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and Beijing. It will also be
available through On Pedder stores in Jakarta, Bangkok and Shanghai.

The company has made a crippling decision for consumers by restricting in store
purchases to in person only so don’t think you can call a boutique in Shanghai and
have another color shipped.  However, in some cases, you can make purchases online.
By the looks of things though it is a sure bet that all of the colors, and knock offs, will be
available at street markets and on ebay.

While I am an Ebay addict I refuse to pay $100 for a cotton bag that was aimed to help
soothe the environmental ailments and we hope that the rest of you will also choose not
to give into this as just a fad.  This bag was meant to be trendy so that it could help
save the world from a naturally tragic end not for the sake of being the next “it bag” for
the purpose of fashion alone.
