Have you ever listened to music that made you feel as if the artist was telling you         a story through
the speakers?

Goliath Flores is one such artist.  Through his eclectic fusion of Latin and American sounds Goliath
takes you to a place of beauty where every note rings in time and space.  The talented signer,
songwriter, and musician is one of those rare and truly gifted artists that is not only capable of laying
down amazing tracks but also is just as good, if not better, live as he is blowing up your speakers.

I met Goliath in Jacksonville, FL in 2005 at a local cigar bar where a cover-band entertainer was doing
great renditions of old favorites from Billy Joel and the sorts.  About an hour into the set in came a
hippy-esque man with a grey newsboy cap and a guitar strapped across his back.  Immediately I was
intrigued.  After a few moments the singer on stage announced that he would take a short brake.
Watching the stage I noticed Goliath approach the entertainer, and being seated fairly close to them, I
could hear him ask if it would be okay to do a short set during that time.  An agreement was made
and Goliath took the stage.  “Hi.  My name is Goliath Flores and I just got in from California.  I wanted
to sing a couple of my songs for you tonight if that’s okay,” he said in a soft voice.  The crowd cheered
curiously.

The mysterious man with the acoustic guitar began to play and immediately a hush fell over the bar.
As I was watching the one-man-band turn out a trumpet solo with only his mouth I realized that the
once bustling audience had not yet let out a peep.  Looking around the crowd, when I could finally
force my astonished eyes off the stage, I could see the amusement in everyone’s eyes.  It was clear
what they were all thinking “is he really doing that with his mouth?”  For me, on that night, a love affair
with Goliath’s music began.

These days Goliath continues to amaze.  Currently he is working on his new album and learning to
play the duduk which is an Armenian instrument with sound quality similar to the clarinet.  For his next
CD he plans on a more Flamenco styling of guitar melded with the beauty of his vocals, and of course
the duduk.  For no fans new and old will have to be satisfied by his already released self-titled CD
Goliath Flores.  As the New Year draws closer by the day those of us who are already fans await
breathlessly for the next disc to wow and move us.

For that reason alone I have chosen this masterful student of music to be my pick of the month.
Could you have lived your entire life without him?  Sure.  But, it would be such a shame.
